1. What is a typical session like?
The first half is cognitive therapy. Discussing what will be worked on
and setting goals when appropriate. The second half is the hypnosis
in which you will be reclined, feel completely relaxed and will
experience what is the equivalent of about a two hour nap. The
hypnosis part of the session is recorded and burned to a CD prior to
the end of the session. The CDs are a great reinforcement to be
used on a daily basis.
2. Are your services confidential?
Absolutely. Tonya does not share any client stories or names of
clients with anyone. Even when she has written testimonials she
finds it difficult to share those tidbits. The only time she would not
hold a confidence is if someone was to tell her that they were going
to hurt themselves or someone else. However, with the clients she
sees that doesn't seem to be a concern. The confidentiality she
holds does not have the same patient privilege as a licensed
therapist, which would only be an issue if she were called in a court
of law. Her clients are on journeys of self-improvement and
discovery and tend to stay out of the court system, so this tends to
be a non-issue.
3. Will I remember the hypnosis?
Most people remember 80-90% of what occurs during the hypnotic
state. However, the deeper you go, the less you remember. There
are some who remember very little due to the depth of the state they
reached.
4. Can anyone be hypnotized?
Yes, if you want to be hypnotized, going to a hypnotherapist that you
trust and who knows how to speak to your personality style or
suggestibility will help you to achieve the state of hypnosis.
5. How many sessions will it take?
It depends on the person and the area you want to improve. It
averages between 1 and 12 sessions. Some people want to work on
improving other areas after experiencing success and continue
hypnotherapy off and on for years.
6. Will you make me do weird things?
Only if you want to. A hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything
you don't want to do. Hypnotherapy is done with the client's consent
and control. If you do not wish to change, no amount of suggestions
will force you to change. Hypnosis is just a tool that allows you to
support your desired change in your life. You are in control at all
times.
